The Rotherham Sangeet and Choir Group was set up to learn music and singing in order to engage local people with specific needs. Currently there are twenty members in our group who enjoy singing and who have a particular interest in helping local communities in Rotherham.
We want to work with members of the community who may be feeling isolated or experiencing mental health issues such as depression and anxiety due to various health problems. We particularly want to work with people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia. We aim to work with local charities and community groups to help build people’s confidence and bring them together through music.
We facilitate and support singing workshops in the Rotherham area, as well as holding performances and presentations to make music accessible to all. The group is a mixed and diverse cultural group, and we are keen to reach out to all whatever their faith or culture. We study and perform a wide range of music from all over the world, from pop and folk songs in English to Bollywood and devotional songs from all over the Indian subcontinent and everything in between!
We work with different groups and partners in Rotherham, sharing culture and music whilst encouraging social interaction in an informal environment. We are an inclusive group and we welcome anyone eho would like to come and sing with us.
